Wedding season is in full swing! And for those who are getting ready to plan their own joyous nuptials, it’s a great time to scout out the decor and designs that steal the show versus those that seem to be recycled over and over.

Here are a few tips to take into consideration while you’re making the rounds and writing down your own wedding inspirations in the moment.

Embrace the Unexpected

Before you move into all the shiny details, remember that it’s okay to want to plan for any eventualities that could shake things up, like a rainstorm during your outside wedding, the logistics of cleaning up after all those magical birds you released inside, or watching your giant ice sculpture come crashing down at the touch of a toddler.

Okay, so maybe things won’t be that dramatic (Or maybe they will! If you want that drama, girl, GET IT.), but the main takeaway here is that you can plan everything down to the second and things will still be affected by the variables of guests, weather, layouts, and allergic reactions.

You should absolutely have fun finding and nailing down the pieces that you love, but at the end of it all, the person you’ll be going home with is what really matters. So embrace whatever silly oddities or inconsistencies might be thrown in your path! And if there are a few moments that aren’t quite as perfect as you imagined, they’ll make the perfect stories to retell as you begin married life.

Exit the Trend Train

We all want to be unique, but the more lighting and draping and furniture and place settings you wade through, the easier it is to be guided away from the shimmering vision you’ve already laid out so carefully. Don’t let yourself get so deep that you can’t find your way back to that ultimate plan.

Give yourself time away from your searches and phone calls and plans that pertain to the big day. A little bit of time spent with your fiance or the girls is a great reminder of the everyday you. Taking a break from that stress, those decisions, and the pressure of so many different people can really help you keep your center, so that the next time you dive in, you can be sure you’re doing what you want.

Maybe you’re not easily swayed by that new trendy thing that keeps appearing, but we all understand the pressure to make other people happy with our decoration choices. Whether it’s the venue, the dress, or the table cloths, it’s easy to get caught up in everyone else, meaning you forget about you. Take the time to step back, breathe, and think about what will make you happy, too. Don’t be afraid to go for something that feels different and edgy, because if it’s you–then it’s you!

Make Your Memory, Then Keep it

Wedding budgets are obviously all across the board, but in the end, they are all still weddings. So while you’re divvying out funds for food, drinks, and the three-piece band, it’s not a bad idea to put some of that moola toward a few trinkets that you can take home with you.

Clearly, the dress and the rings are very traditional and fun, but why not invest in something like a framed copy of your handwritten vows, wooden letter crafts to hang on the door in your new place, or a compilation of the photos your friends and family have taken throughout the day.

Because there are so many moving pieces, it can be easy to get swept up in the fast pace. But if you keep your cool, follow your heart, and have something real to hold onto at the end of it all, you’ll definitely come through it all–maybe with some style regrets?–but without a shred of disappointment.
